Revenue & Payouts
Your revenue sources and how you get paid
The four revenue types
Each sale has a platform fee deducted, and the rest is automatically transferred to the creator as revenue. The fee is a base of 20%, and drops to as low as 10% when you meet certain conditions. The lower the fee, the more you receive. You can check the fee rate currently applied to you on the "Revenue" page of your dashboard.
The calculations below show the amounts when the fee is discounted to its 10% floor (a 90% share). Before any discount (the base 20% fee, an 80% share) you receive less. Check the fee rate currently applied to you on the "Revenue" page of your dashboard. Creators have four kinds of revenue.
① Badge purchase revenue
When a supporter buys a badge, 80%–90% of the set price is automatically transferred to the creator.
Example: sell one $10.00 badge (at a 10% fee) → Creator: $9.00 / platform fee: $1.00
Monthly subscription badges work the same way for revenue. On each monthly charge, the platform fee is deducted and the rest is automatically paid out, continuing until the supporter cancels (e.g. at $10.00/mo and a 10% fee, you receive $9.00 every month). For how to choose the billing type (one-time / monthly subscription), see Creating badges.
② Chant revenue
When a supporter sends chants, 80%–90% of the total is transferred (for both free and paid badges).
Example: $1.00 each × 5 = $5.00 (at a 10% fee) → Creator: $4.50 / platform fee: $0.50
③ NFT mint fee revenue
When a supporter of a paid badge mints an NFT, the mint fee minus the platform fee is transferred to the creator. (NFT mints on free badges are not eligible for this revenue.) The NFT mint fee rate is set by the creator per badge (see "Rank NFTs" below).
Example: mint fee rate 20%, a $10.00 badge NFT mint fee = $2.00 (paid by the supporter) → Creator: $1.80 / platform fee: $0.20 (at a 10% fee)
④ Referral rewards
5% of the badge, chant, and NFT sales made by another creator who signed up through your referral link becomes your reward.
Example: a creator you referred sells a $10.00 badge (at a 10% fee) → That creator: $9.00 / You (referrer): $0.50 / platform fee: $0.50
Reward rate
5% of the referred creator's sales
Eligible
Badge purchases, chant purchases, NFT mints
Not eligible
Free badges (both purchases and NFT mints), free chants
Duration
Unlimited
Requirement
Your own Stripe Connect setup must be complete
Once payout setup is complete, your referral link appears on the referral page as badgelu.com/join?ref=yourcode (locked until setup). It doesn't affect the referred creator's sales revenue (the referral reward is paid from badgelu's fee).
Rank NFTs
Rank NFTs let supporters save "what rank they hold on this badge at this exact moment" as an NFT (a tamper-proof digital proof) on the blockchain. Your record of support becomes a digital item that is yours to keep.
Spec summary
Proof of rank
What this NFT proves is not ownership of the badge, but "the supporter's rank within that badge."
Chains
The supporter picks Polygon or Ethereum Mainnet when minting
NFT image
The badge image itself (follows the square/circle frame). Rank etc. is stored in metadata, not the image
Metadata
Records the badge name, rank, total supporters, mint date, creator, and the supporter who minted
Mint any number of times
The same badge can be minted repeatedly (a snapshot of that moment's rank)
Allow / disallow minting
The badge creator can allow or disallow rank NFT minting (on by default)
View / share
Also viewable and shareable on OpenSea
Gas fees and revenue (important)
Gas fees are paid by the supporter. The NFT mint's gas fee is collected from the supporter at Stripe checkout, combined with the NFT mint fee.
The NFT mint fee (the amount the supporter pays) is "badge price × mint fee rate." This mint fee rate can be set by the creator per badge, from 0 to 100% (on the badge create/edit screen). The rate you set applies to that badge's NFT mint fee.
Paid badge
Badge price × mint fee rate (e.g. rate 20%, $10.00 → $2.00)
Free badge
The per-currency minimum (e.g. $0.50 for USD)
- The creator earns the collected mint fee minus the platform fee (free badges are not eligible)
- NFT mints on paid badges are also eligible for the referral program
Benefits for creators
- Earn from NFT mint fees on paid badges
- Supporters' experience gets richer, strengthening long-term ties
- NFTs can be viewed and shared on OpenSea and other marketplaces and in supporters' wallets, increasing your badge's exposure
How payouts work
The payout flow
Supporter buys → Payment completes at Stripe Checkout → Auto-transfer to the creator's Stripe Connect account (minus the platform fee) → Deposited to your bank on Stripe's payout cycle (usually ~2 business days)
For monthly subscription badges, this flow repeats automatically on every monthly charge (until the supporter cancels).

If you belong to an organization (agency / team)
If you belong to an organization that manages multiple creators (an agency, a team, etc.), a portion of your revenue can be allocated to the organization as a management fee. It is a feature for organizations that support their members together, currently offered by invitation only.
How it works
- The management fee is allocated from your revenue after the platform fee is deducted (it is separate from badgelu's fee).
- The rate is 0–50%. You always keep at least 50% of your revenue.
- The rate is proposed by the organization and only takes effect once you approve it. Nothing is allocated without your consent.
- You approve or decline it from the "Revenue" page of your dashboard.
While you belong to an organization, the automatic fee discount (from meeting conditions) is paused, and your fee breakdown is shown together in the organization card on the "Revenue" page. If you leave the organization, the automatic discount resumes.
Rate changes and leaving
- If the organization proposes a change to the management fee, it also requires your approval. Until you approve, the previous rate stays in effect.
- You can leave the organization at any time (the "Revenue" page). After leaving, no further management fee is allocated.

FAQ (for creators)
What can't I do without Stripe Connect?
You can't create paid badges or use the referral program. Free badges can be issued without any setup.
How many badges can I create?
Up to 20 active badges per account. Deleted (deactivated) badges don't count, so deleting unneeded ones frees up room.
Can I change the currency or price later?
Currency, billing type (one-time / monthly subscription), badge price, chant unit price, and expiration type (Regular / Challenge) are fixed at creation and can't be changed later. On the other hand, the story (description), badge image, frame, thank-you message, accent color, background color, rank NFT permission, NFT mint fee rate, and perks can all be changed later.
Who pays the NFT gas fee?
The supporter. It's collected at Stripe checkout combined with the NFT mint fee.
Is the referral reward different from revenue when my own badge sells?
Yes. The referral reward is 5% of the sales of "another creator" who signed up via your referral link. It's separate from what you earn on your own badge sales, and paid from badgelu's fee.
What happens to my referral link if I change my username?
Your referral link uses a fixed code (badgelu.com/join?ref=yourcode), so changing your username does not change the link. Both existing referral relationships and anyone who signs up through the link from now on are preserved. Only if you previously shared an old username-based link, please replace it with the latest link shown on the referral page.
Can the fee be lowered?
The fee has a base of 20%, and an automatic discount applies when you meet certain conditions, lowering it to as little as 10% (the lower the fee, the more you earn). You can check the fee rate currently applied to you, and the discount conditions and your progress, on the "Revenue" page of your dashboard. The discount conditions are set and updated by us as campaigns.
What is the revenue share for organizations (agencies / teams)?
Creators who belong to an agency or team can allocate a portion of their revenue to the organization as a management fee (rate 0–50%, subject to your approval). It is currently invitation-only. See "If you belong to an organization (agency / team)" above for details.
When do payouts arrive?
It depends on Stripe's payout cycle, but usually about 2 business days. Real-time balance and payout history are in the Stripe Dashboard.
I got chants but no chant revenue
This is because the chant unit price is set to 0 (free chant). Chant revenue (80%–90%) applies whether the badge is free or paid, as long as the chant unit price is 1 or more.
Can supporters get refunds?
Given the nature of digital content, refunds are not offered as a rule (stated in the Terms and the Specified Commercial Transactions notice). We recommend making the pre-purchase risk clear to supporters.
